GE, NGC to Jointly Develop Wind Turbine Gearbox

GE Energy and China’s Nanjing High Speed & Accurate Gear Company announced that they’ve signed an agreement to jointly develop gearboxes for GE’s 1.5-megawatt wind turbines.  The agreement makes NGC one of GE’s leading component suppliers in the wind energy business.  The gearbox is a critical component of the GE 1.5-megawatt wind turbine. Nearly 5,000 of these turbines  have been installed or committed for projects worldwide.

Regarding the GE NGC join development of gearboxes for GE generators…has this type of collaboration been done before for GE to get suitable gearboxes?
