US Media Hurts International Climate Change Policies

A new analysis finds the US media is partially to blame for stalled international efforts to fight climate change, by keeping Americans in the dark about the urgency of the problem, MarketingVOX reports.

According to CanWest News Service, an analysis published in Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting magazine found multiple examples of US media organizations watering down recent warnings from scientists about pollution and global warming.

The report compared UK and US headlines and found the Brits tended to treat climate change as an urgent crisis, while American headlines continue to depict it as an unresolved debate.

One example given was the recent study by former World Bank chief economist Nicolas Stern, which warned that the cost of doing nothing about climate change would be worse than taking immediate action.

While the study, heavily published in the media, sparked heated social debate in the UK and Canada, no one Stateside had even heard of it.
