ForestEthics Focuses On Sears/Lands’ End Catalog Practices

ForestEthics turned its attention to the catalog practices of Sears/Lands’ End with in-person visits late last month announcing the launch of a new campaign against the catalog company.

Sears/Lands’ End mails out more than 425 million catalogs a year that contain almost no recycled content, and use paper sourced from Canada’s Boreal Forest, according to ForestEthics.

The environmental group is calling on Sears Holding Corporation to develop and implement a procurement policy that: stops the use of fiber from endangered forests, ensures virgin fiber used comes from Forest Stewardship Council-certified operations, maximizes post consumer recycled fiber and reduces paper consumption and the carbon footprint of the company’s paper use.

The group has had a number of successful campaigns against catalog companies. Limited Brands (parent company of Victoria’s Secret, Express, Bath & Body Works, and The Limited), for example, signed a new forest policy following a long ForestEthics’ campaign.
