Wal-Mart, Microsoft Launch Cleantech Initiatives

Wal-Mart and Microsoft announced new clean technology programs at the Cleantech Forum in Toronto, Cleantech reports.

Wal-Mart and the Cleantech Group launched a web portal to allow cleantech solution providers to introduce their solutions to Wal-Mart. The portal will soon be available at www.cleantech.com/accelerator/.

Cleantech providers interested in doing business with Wal-Mart can submit their information to the portal, where it will be aggregated, reviewed by the Cleantech Group and presented to Wal-Mart executives.

Microsoft General Manager of Development and Platform Evangelism Rob Bernard announced a new cleantech visibility program, saying that the company was committed to raising the visibility of cleantech solutions to the hundreds of thousands of independent software vendors it has regular contact with.

The company announced it will now begin showcasing cleantech companies with case studies and videos in its ISV showcase on Microsoft.com, and in other outward-facing publications.

In addition, Microsoft said it will encourage energy efficiently-related innovation in its Imagine Cup program, a competition encouraging some 100,000 IT students worldwide to develop green-related software.
