CES Pushing Green Message
The International Consumer Electronics Show, opening in Vegas today, is going greener this year in part of a broader PR campaign to lessen the perceived reputation of an energy-guzzling business that produces products that aren’t easily recycled, according to WaPo.
Typically, the show uses as much energy as it takes to power 2,600 homes per year and the equivalent of 2.3 million gallons of gasoline. So this year, it’s using recycled carpet, biodegradable plastic utensils, pamphlets printed with soy ink and energy-efficient light bulbs, all in an attempt to reduce the size of its carbon footprint.
Companies will also be pushing greener products, even though only last fall, manufacturers offering greener consumer electronics at the IFA in Europe learned that consumers weren’t particularly interested.
Still, the show in Vegas will include more eco-friendly TVs and phones because there does seem to be a consumer interest in greener electronic devices.
