BT Says CSR Week A Big Success

BT held its fourth CSR week earlier this month. Adrian Hosford, BT’s director of corporate responsibility, said that internal polling indicated that two-thirds of employees find such events helpful, Personnel Today reports.

That polling should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt, considering that only one-third of employees attended an activity during the week-long initiative.

The company says that 35,000 BT people – more than one in three of the workforce – are involved in voluntary CSR activities.

On a somewhat Orwellian note, the poll also revealed that employees trust the information BT’s internal communications provides on environment and society issues more than the information they receive from government, pressure groups, high street retailers and the media.

Hosford said it’s important to convince senior managers of the benefits to the bottom line of running such projects because management are often against anything that takes up time and space. “HR must prove things like climate change reduction is not just an ‘ego trip’ from their department, but actually affect bottom-line results,” he said in the article.
