Over the past two years, Pitney Bowes’ energy task force has been responsible for projects that have eliminated more than 380 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from its operations, according to an IndustryWeek interview with Paul Robbertz, the company’s vice president of Environment Health & Safety.

The company’s conservation efforts include supporting clean energy and reducing costs, Robbertz said. They include retrofitting lights to reconfiguring compressed air systems, optimizing boilers, upgrading office systems, and co-generating heat and electricity.

Pitney Bowes has also offset the equivalent of 15,471 tons of carbon dioxide through the purchase of certified renewable energy credits since 2003.

Read how Robbertz responds to questions relating to ways the company is addressing waste reduction, pollution, supply chain management, product development, “carbon footprint,” and sustainability here.

Research released in December by Pitney Bowes and DMNews said U.S. consumers think direct mail does more harm to the environment than it really does.
