PepsiCo Foodservice has partnered with the not-for-profit Green Restaurant Association to help PepsiCo customers become more environmentally sustainable.

GRA will conduct environmental site assessments to identify opportunities where PepsiCo customers can make their operations more sustainable and provide related cost-benefit analysis.

GRA has a guide to green products for restaurateurs available here (PDF) that includes products such as bathroom tissue, hand dryers, plates, sinks, take-out containers, and water filtration systems.

For a restaurant to qualify for green certification it must recycle its waste, be styrofoam-free, complete four environmental steps, and commit to four additional steps per year, according to GRA. Additional steps can include energy or water conservation measures, changing to environmentally friendly cleaners, making sustainable food choices, and using clean power.

The food services sector had the lowest average (11.5 out of 100) of any of the eight sectors measured with smallest overall improvement in Climate Counts’ second annual Company Scorecard released earlier this month.

The National Restaurant Association recently launched Conserve, an environmental initiative.
