AT&T is adding 105 alternative-fuel vehicles to its fleets in more than 30 cities across the U.S. beginning in June.
AT&T will deploy 25 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vans, 65 electric hybrid Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vehicles — Ford Escapes and Toyota Priuses — and 15 electric hybrid conversion work trucks.
The company estimates that the move will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 124 metric tons and conserve nearly 34,395 gallons of fuel annually.
The CNG vans are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 30 percent compared with traditional gasoline vans. The electric hybrid OEM vehicles are expected to offer a 39 percent improvement in fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent. The electric hybrid conversion work trucks are expected to offer a 38 percent improvement in fuel economy compared with similar gasoline-powered vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28 percent.
AT&T joins an increasing number of companies introducing or adding fuel efficient vehicles and fuel efficiency measures, such as slower speeds, to their fleets. UPS announced that it would expand its U.S. Green Fleet from 50 hybrid electric trucks to 250 (the largest commercial order of such trucks by any company), and increase its fleet of vehicles running on compressed natural gas from 800 to 1,100.

AT&T IS ACTUALLY ONLY ADDING 25 “ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLES.” Those would be compressed natural gas (CNG). “Gasoline” Electric Hybrids are just that “gasoline” powered vehicles and fuel with petroleum. Please DO NOT confuse the issues and try tom compare apples to oranges.
