Bayer Releases CSR Report

bayer2007big.jpgAccording to Bayer’s 2007 Sustainability Report, while company growth caused an increase in GHG emissions from 7.52 million metric tons in 2006 to 7.6 million tons in 2007, it has reduced its GHG emissions by 37 percent worldwide since 1990.

The company says it aims to reduce its GHG emissions by 25 percent per metric ton of product worldwide by 2020 in its “energy-intensive” Bayer MaterialScience.

While it estimates that GHG emissions of the Bayer Group will remain at the present level through 2020 despite growth in production, Bayer says it plans to reduce its GHG emissions by 15 percent at Bayer CropScience, which handles a lower volume than its MaterialScience, and by five percent at Bayer HealthCare.

Bayer said in 2007 that it is investing approximately $1.46 billion in climate-related research and development and other projects in the next three years, and that, by the end of 2009, it will have documented about 85 percent of its CO2 emissions — including raw materials, logistics and energy use.

Here’s an address by Dr. Wolfgang Plischke, member of the Board of Management, on Bayer’s new sustainability report.
