Johnson Controls Pushes Solar Kits

Johnson Controls is now selling solar kits designed to make it easy for customers to make their buildings more energy efficient, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

One customer, the Twentynine Palms Marine Base in California, is projected to save $7 million per year in energy costs by installing eight acres of solar panels and other technologies.

Even though renewable energy is still secondary to Johnson’s main business as an energy-saving technology provider, the company says that the growing demand for alternative energy will help boost its earnings.

Solar energy is estimated to grow to $74 billion within 10 years from last year’s $20 billion industry worldwide according to a forecast issued by Clean Edge.

Apart from making customers more energy efficient, the company is also outfitting its new headquarters with energy-saving technologies.

The changes are projected to save Johnson Controls 75% on its operating costs from the new headquarters, even as the amount of office space on the 33-acre campus nearly doubles.
