Owens Corning announced that it will reduce its total U.S. GHG emissions by 25 percent per unit of production from 2006 to 2012. The commitment is part of EPA’s Climate Leaders program.

The company said it will achieve the goal through a host of energy efficiency measures ranging from basic electrical equipment improvements to advanced glass melting technology and heat recovery. It will also reduce GHG emissions by implementing new blowing agent technology in its foam insulation manufacturing operations.

In September, the company announced that it will help its building materials customers enter a growing market category – re-insulation.

In July, the company installed a 206 kilowatt solar power system on the roof of its Gresham, Oregon facility.

Last year, Owens Corning introduced a commercial calculator which the company says demonstrates how improving the performance of the envelope and/or lighting and HVAC systems can help a metal building owner qualify for tax deductions.
