AT&T is launching 1E’s NightWatchman PC power management solution on 310,000 desktop computers across its domestic operations to help improve energy efficiency.

The company says powering down corporate PCs during non-work hours is expected to save AT&T more than 135 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year, equivalent of power about 15,000 home and eliminate about 123,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

In April, Verizon Wireless deployed 1E WakeUp and NightWatchman power management software to reduce its energy consumption.

In 2008, AT&T introduced a new fleet of alternative-fuel vehicles and is installing a 1 megawatt solar panel system at its San Ramon, Calif., campus. In addition, 10 percent of electricity used at its Austin, Texas facilities is coming from wind power.

In August, AT&T Services joined The Green Grid and also announced it will supply data center performance information to assist the EPA in developing a new Energy Star rating for data center infrastructure.
