Xerox Corp. released its 2008 Report on Global Citizenship, and announced that it has achieved a 21 percent worldwide reduction in GHG emissions since 2002. The company says it’s well on the way to achieving a 25 percent reduction in GHG emissions by 2012.

Between 2002 and 2007, the company reported a 19 percent reduction in energy consumption. Eighty percent of its new products introduced in 2007 meet the EPA’s Energy Star requirements.

Xerox has earned chain-of-custody certification from both the Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. In addition, the company says about 90 percent of Xerox paper suppliers meet these guidelines and that it is working to achieve 100 percent.

In September, Xerox announced it was offering more green paper choices. The company has also joined the Eco-Patent Commons, pledging environmentally-beneficial patents to the public domain.

In March, the company launched a sustainability calculator that measures the overall impact a company’s printers and copiers have on the environment.
