The Procter & Gamble Company has released its 2008 Sustainability Report. P&G says is on track to meet or exceed five-year goals established in 2007.

During the last year, P&G operations reduced water consumption by seven percent, energy use by six percent, CO2 emissions by eight percent and waste disposal by 21 percent (per unit of production). Including last year’s results, P&G has reduced water consumption by 51 percent, energy usage by 46 percent, CO2 emissions by 52 percent and waste disposal by 50 percent since 2002 (per unit of production).

P&G achieved $2.05 billion in cumulative sales of products with a significantly reduced environmental impact. In last year’s report, the company said it planned to generate at least $20 billion in cumulative sales of products with reduced environmental impact over the next five years.

In June, P&G said it had earmarked about five percent of its budget this year, or about $5 million, for energy-saving projects, including downsizing its office and technical center facilities and remodeling and upgrading those facilities to more energy-efficient standards.
