Greenpeace Says Electronics Guide Reveals Lack of Climate Leadership

Nokia remained in first place in Greenpeace’s 10th edition of the Greener Electronics Guide. The company scored 6.9 – in part due to its voluntary take-back program. Sony came in second for its new environmental warranty and recycling for individual products regardless of location.

Greenpeace says the latest edition reveals that very few firms are showing true climate leadership and that many companies are making vague or “essentially meaningless statements about global emissions reductions.”

The organization says that despite many green claims, major companies like Dell, Microsoft, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and Apple are failing to support the necessary levels of global cuts in emissions.

Of the 18 companies included in the guide, Greenpeace says only Sharp, Fujitsu Siemens and Philips show full support for the goal of reducing 30 percent of emissions for industrial nations by 2020.

Here is the ninth edition of the guide.
