QVC Installs One-Megawatt Solar Power Farm

Liberty Media's QVC, working with SunPower Corp., announced the installation of a one-megawatt solar electric power farm at its Rocky Mount Inc. distribution center based in Rocky Mount, NC.Liberty Media’s QVC, working with SunPower Corp., announced the installation of a one-megawatt solar electric power farm at its Rocky Mount Inc. distribution center based in Rocky Mount, NC.

The solar array is expected to reduce 3.1 million pounds of carbon emissions annually, the equivalent of removing 259 cars from the road each year. Liberty and QVC are expecting to offset 20 percent of the facility’s annual energy costs.

SunPower Tracker solar tracking technology was used in the solar array. The company says the system  is able to capture up to 25 percent more energy than fixed solar systems by following the sun’s movement across the sky, and brings the added benefit of reduced land-use requirements.

Southern Energy Management served as SunPower’s primary contractor, providing engineering and project management support. The energy produced by the solar system will be carried by Edgecombe-Martin County EMC. North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation will buy electric power from the facility and GreenCo Solutions Inc. will buy the Renewable Energy Certificates from the facility.

SunPower has installed solar installations at companies such as Gap, Hewlett Packard, Macy’s, and Toyota to name a few.
