Consumers Can Cash In Reusable Tech Goods With HP

HP introduced a Consumer Buyback and Planet Partners Recycling Program that gives customers an economic incentive to turn in their used technology products, rather than just tossing them.

To do so, they visit the consumer buyback website and enter the required product information (e.g., brand, model, specs) to find out if there is value in the product and how much – and how much shipping it back will cost them.

They then box up the product, attach the shipping label from HP, and drop it off at UPS. After the package is received and the product passed the “integrity check,” HP mails the consumer a check for the quoted value.

If the product does not have residual value, HP will recycle HP and Compaq-branded products for free, without shipping. Home pickup of products is available for an additional fee.

Products included in the category of equipment span from PCs, monitors, and printers to digital cameras, PDAs (personal digital assistants) and smartphones of any brand.

In GreenFactor’s November study of which tech brands are perceived as green leaders, HP came in third, just behind Dell and Apple but ahead of both Microsoft and Google.
