Kellogg Improves On Energy & Water Use, CO2 Emissions
Kellogg has decreased energy use by 4.5 percent, cut CO2 emissions by 4 percent, and cut water use almost 7 percent per metric ton of food since 2005, according to its first Corporate Responsibility Report (PDF).
The amount of waste it has generated in that same period has increased about 6 percent.
Kellogg says it has established a new senior management structure to oversee environment sustainability and is working with the industry to drive sustainable packaging and define sustainable agriculture.
The company has set a goal of 15 percent to 20 percent reduction (compared with 2005 baselines) in energy use, GHG emissions, water use, and waste per metric ton of food produced by 2015.
Last summer, the company made the Ethisphere Institute’s 2008 list of 2008 World’s Most Ethical Companies.
