Did I miss something, or do UK supermarkets produce all of the products that they sell? This is punishing the mailman for bringing junk mail. It will hurt supermarkets that already have razor-thin margins when the fault lies with the producers of the products--and consumers who are indifferent to or insist on wasteful packaging. This plan aims to have supermarkets force producers to reduce packaging, but it would be shifting this responsibility away from where it belongs, with the consumers.
