VTech says all of its 2009 cordless phones are Energy Star-certified, and offer RoHS compliance. The company also says its new club store packaging for cordless phones is 100-percent recyclable and has reduced its gift box size by 41 percent. The smaller-sized packaging uses 99-percent less plastic, with a total of 14 ounces of PET plastic reduced from each box.

Other new club store packaging practices include adding a water-based coating to replace UV coating on all gift boxes, which reduces the amount of chemicals used in production and recycling, as well as streamlines processing steps reducing environmental impact. VTech says the process improvements include eliminating third-party packaging support, temporary packaging and duplicate packing processes.
