In response to the criticisms: burning biomass doesn't increase CO2 in the atmosphere if that biomass is then replaced by the same amount of biomass. Yes, they burn the cane, but then they regrow it - the net effect on atmospheric CO2 is zero. This is the fundamental point about renewable energy.

If they take the biomass they are burning and use that to create electricity, then they've prevented coal from being used to create electricity. That is a reduction in CO2 emission over what would happen if they did nothing.

Frankly, if I have a choice (and I do) of buying sugar from a company whose existence does not increase CO2 or from a company whose existence does increase it, I'll choose the one that is carbon-neutral.

Using cane fiber and wood waste as fuel may eliminate the need for fossil fuels, and thus legally qualify for the "CarbonFree" classification; but that combustion of biomass still produces CO2, whatever the fuel.
It may be a good PR move, but it is scientific sleight-of-hand. I give Domino credit for at least keeping the topic in front of the public, but not for any realistic reduction of CO2 emission.

You still are burning cane fields producing and releasing very large amounts of carbon dioxide into our enviorment. please answer how you are farming cane without burning the field before harvisting?
