National Geographic Study: U.S. Consumers Least Green

Bookmark and Share Email this story Print this post Add your comments

Consumers in India, Brazil and China exhibit the most “green” consumption habits, according to a recent survey by National Geographic and Globescan.

Because of the overall amount of energy and items consumed, those in the United States, Canada and Japan scored the lowest, according to the Greendex survey. The survey also considers consumers’ active choices, such as whether to repair or replace an item, using cold water to wash clothes and choosing green proucts over environmentally unfriendly ones.

Consumers in Brazil, Russia and Mexico increased their Greendex score the most, when compared to last year’s results.

Here are some more charts from the study.

Great to see China so high on the list but I am not sure about the South American countries. We just took a cruise around the whole of SA and saw an unbelieveable amount of trash in the streets, country-side and oceans. Maybe the Brazilians and Argentinians consume responsibly but they certainly do not dispose of waste in the same manner!
