Green Building Retrofits Represent a Potential $400B Market
Boosted in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will provide significant funding for renovations to federal building, the total potential market for major green renovations in the commercial building sector is approximately $400 billion, according to a new study by Pike Research. Although currently a relatively small market, the market researcher forecasts that comprehensive efficiency retrofits will more than triple in annual revenue to $6.6 billion by 2013.

While this article focuses on commercial buildings, it’s important to note that retrofitting the 122 million existing U.S. residential buildings is also an enormous opportunity to reduce energy consumption, create jobs and save millions of homeowners money. New Leaf America and other organizations, like ACEEE, and Efficiency First are beginning to tackle the “efficiency challenge” and develop these important markets.”

Finally! The big picture: A look at the huge savings in energy costs. This is a matter that needs to be looked at immediately and is relevant to the workplace and residencies. We worked with Madison Construction about a year ago in Chicago and the annual savings on replacing the light bulbs alone was into the thousands!
