I know there have been plenty of people who are furious about how watered down this bill has become, but let's please not lose sight of the fact that just 6 months ago, we had an administration that didn't believe climate change was man made.

This bill is far from perfect, but gets things going, sets up the cap&trade market, and will be a huge impetus for continuing the investment in renewable energy. Most importantly it ends the discussion and starts the process.

I really have trouble stomaching the arguments against this bill from carbon-intensive industries. How could they not know that this was coming? Moving toward a low energy economy been talked about since the seventies, and low carbon for at least three. Consumer opinion has been shifting, and they pay the bills. If poor individuals and companies that move toward lowering their carbon emissions are subsidized then it should weaken the blow, if not offset it. The rest of the argument just sounds like fear of change, to the point where company representatives and groups have put their constituents in severe danger by not thinking ahead. I don't think that was the fault of this bill. Let us hope that the Senate sees the reason over the paranoia.

C'mon guys...."major victory"??? Democrats hold a 59% majority in the House and this bill barely passes by 7 votes?
For the past several decades (60 years or more), a narrow victory in the House usually means no victory in the Senate....which is no victory at all.

I realize that this bill has been so watered down that it is now unsupportable, but we actually have a bill at least. Unless we get our collective butts in gear, this bill will die in the Senate. We need to support this bill even though we are holding our noses. We must get this thing through the Senate, then later we can fix the bill so the public truly pays.
