Dell Launches Energy Savings Calculator, Energy Star 5.0 PCs
Dell has released a new energy savings calculator aimed at helping businesses determine the energy use of their computers systems, and a broad portfolio of Energy Star 5.0 compliant desktops, workstations and portable computers.
The Client Energy Savings Calculator allows businesses to assess and optimize the power consumption and the potential energy savings of their client infrastructures using Dell OptiPlex, Vostro and Latitude systems. The calculator provides customers with an estimate of annual energy consumption and energy costs for the system they own or plan to purchase.
The online tool analyzes configuration options including power supplies, processors, disk drives and storage, memory, graphic adapters and power management. In addition, it enables users to analyze power consumption in different countries and regions.
OptiPlex customers can also have their energy management settings enabled in the factory, making it easier to reduce energy costs right out of the box. Dell said its Energy Star 5.0-compliant OptiPlex 960 enables up to 43 percent less power consumption than the previous generation of OptiPlex desktops, comes in packaging that is up to 89 percent recyclable and contains at least 10 percent post-consumer recycled plastic on the small form factor model.
A wide selection of Dell OptiPlex, Precision, and Latitude commercial client product lines meets the Energy Star 5.0 requirements. Almost all of the desktop, workstation and portable products designed by Dell today consume less than 5 watts in a low-power mode exceeding current levels set by the Environmental Protection Agency for energy efficiency, said Dell.
Dell said it is also helping customers reduce energy costs through flexible computing, an alternative computing model, where data or computing power are centrally stored and access to data is accessed from multiple client devices. It addresses the needs of both end users and IT by using client-server (network based) computing and virtualization technologies to improve manageability, data security, compliance and disaster recovery.
