The U.S. Chamber purportedly represents 3 million US businesses, 96% of which are “small businesses”. However, their position on climate change does not reflect their 3 million constituents. It reflects only the group of four individuals who set the Chamber’s possibly on climate change. Just who are these four individuals? Well, they are not what come to mind when we think of the “small business” Chamber… They are four BILLION-DOLLAR companies who want no limits on CO2 emissions. More specifically, they are the coal industry (Massey, Peabody and CONSOL) and also a shipping company. Don’t be fooled! This is not your neighbor’s Chamber speaking. The community bank, local diner, downtown hardware store and barber shop are NOT the ones challenging climate science. The COAL INDUSTRY is, and the CEO of Massey, Don Blankenship, refers to anyone who believes in the mountains of peer reviewed, vetted climate science as: “atheists and communists”. I put my trust in NASA, the National Academies of Science (of the US, Britain, France, Russia, Germany, China, Japan, Brazil, Italy, India, Etc.), the IPCC and the hundreds of other credible organizations seeking to protect our world, and the not the money grubbing Blankenship. Perhaps the U.S. Chamber should change its name to Blankenship’s Chamber of Commerce. At least that would be more honest…
