Solar Development Important to 92% of Americans

When asked if it’s important for the U.S. to develop and use solar energy, 92 percent of Americans responded “yes,” according to a recent survey by Kelton Research.

The finding from the 2009 Schott Solar Barometer represents a slight decrease, however, from June of 2008, when 94 percent of Americans responded in the affirmative to the previous Schott Solar Barometer, according to a press release. Kelton Research notes that the difference in the polls is within the margin of error.

About 77 percent of survey respondents said that the U.S. government should make solar development a national priority by providing financial support.

When asked which type of energy they would support if they were President, solar came out on top.

solar – 43 percent
wind – 17 percent
natural gas – 12 percent
nuclear – 10 percent

According to the survey, 49 percent of Americans are pondering the use of solar in their home or business in the next five years, but only 12 percent claim to be “extremely informed” about solar.

Schott is a glass company that manufactures solar systems.
