SC Johnson GHG Emissions Down 27% in Last 8 Years

scjohnson ghgSC Johnson continues to make progress toward its 2011 GHG reduction goals, according to its 2009 responsibility report (PDF).

SC Johnson cut greenhouse gas emissions at its worldwide factories by 27 percent during the last eight years, including all its United States operations by 17 percent since 2005. These reductions have been met three years ahead of the company’s internal 2011 target.

The company continues to boost the use of intermodal shipping, instead of over-the-road trucking. The use of intermodal approached 23 million miles in 2008, up slightly from 2007. See the second chart below.

In 2009, SC Johnson introduced its Nature’s Source brand of household items, which are made from more natural materials.

SC Johnson continues to improve compliance with its internal Greenlist process, with use of “better” and “best” rated materials increasing to 47 percent of total materials. See the final chart below.
