Carlson Hotels Certifying Asia-Pacific Hotels to EarthCheck Status
Carlson Hotels plans to put the majority of its Asia-Pacific hotels through the EarthCheck certification program, according to a press release.
The EarthCheck program is run by EC3 Global, a certifier of sustainable travel and tourism operators.
Carlson is not alone in its move to put an “environmental” stamp on its Asia-Pacific offerings. In late February, a host of other chains joined the EarthCheck program, which also helps operators calculate their Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, reports 4Hoteliers.
InterContinental Hotel Group, Sandals Resorts International, Langham, Banyan Tree, Alila, Six Senses and Dusit also joined EarthCheck.
At Carlson, plans are underway to ensure that nearly all Asia-Pacific hotels become third-party certified by the end of this year, said Jean-Marc Busato, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, for Carlson Hotels.
Carlson, which owns the Radisson, Regent, Park Plaza and Country Inn & Suites brands, is focusing on issues such as reducing, recycling and reusing solid waste; reducing the use of harmful chemicals; conserving energy and water, and improving indoor air quality.
In 2008, Carlson launched its “Practical Guide to Greening Your Hotel,” which outlines the hotelier’s sustainability strategies and steps towards environmental responsibility.
EC3 Global has certified and benchmarked more than 1,000 organizations in over 60 countries, said Stewart Moore, CEO of EC3 Global.
As for Carlson’s U.S. operations, a Tucson-area Country Inn & Suites that features energy and water-efficiencies was recently opened, reports HotelDesigns.
The hotel is using Greywater Innovations to reduce its use of water for laundry. To reduce energy use, the hotel features CFLs and other efficient equipment.
Radisson is in the middle of a $1.5 billion facelift, reports USA Today.

Its nice to know that hotels are now concern about the environment. It would be a great campaign in saving our mother earth specially now that we are experiencing sudden climate changes. Nice post.
