75% Support Adding Solar on Public Lands

About 75 percent of Americans are in support of adding solar on public lands, despite efforts by environmentalists to halt certain projects.

The poll, conducted by Gotham Research Group on behalf of the Solar Energy Industries Association, showed the existence of a partisan divide for solar power, compared to wind farms, nuclear plants, oil wells, natural gas facilities and coal plants.

Regardless of public opinion and potential benefits, large-scale solar projects are subject to the same environmental safeguards as other projects on federal land to mitigate any unintended consequences for humans or the environment. It’s a frustrating notion that environmentally and economically beneficial project could be delayed or killed on environmental grounds, but the process is also an opportunity to improve projects that could lead to better sustainability in the long run.
