C3, a fledgling vendor of energy management software, says that its customers and partners now include Adobe, Constellation Energy, Dow Chemical, GE, HP and Siemens.

The customer and partner roster also includes Accenture, BearingPoint, CH2M Hill, Deloitte, Equity Office, Masdar City, Orascom Telecom, Pacific Gas & Electric, Pella, SAIC and Wipro.

Paul Baier, vice president of sustainability consulting at software vendor Groom Energy, says the unveiling of a customer list is a sign of C3’s move from “stealth mode” to full-on operations.

“The company’s newly announced software offerings and customers shake up the market for energy management software,” Baier said. “The company generated considerable interest and rumors as it operated under the radar to refine its software and land initial customers over the last several years.”

Meanwhile, Cisco appears to be pulling out of the building management market and increasing its focus on the smart grid.

In a blog post, the company’s smart grid senior vice president Laura Ipsen said, “Over the past two years the home and building energy management markets have evolved in such a way that we believe we can provide more value to our customers and the industry by enabling interoperability through our core networking products and solutions (for example, EnergyWise) as part of our integrated architecture within the broader smart grid effort.

“For building energy management, this means we are actively pursuing several strategic options for Cisco’s Network Building Mediator and Mediator Manager product line, with an emphasis on minimizing the impact on current customers, partners and employees. “

EnergyWise is a platform for company-wide energy monitoring, reporting and management, the cornerstone of Cisco’s Business Energy Management portfolio.

In July, Cisco and Schneider Electric unveiled a joint energy management solution integrating Schneider’s EcoStruxure energy management architecture with the Cisco EnergyWise platform, allowing users to monitor and control all energy-consuming building assets, such as HVAC, lighting, security, along with energy waste generated from PCs, phones, catalyst switches, power-over-ethernet (PoE) endpoint devices and other IT devices.

Cisco’s revised strategy also means it is ditching a home energy management console, the Home Energy Controller, Cnet reports.

This makes the company the latest in a recent string to abandon the home energy management market, after Microsoft and Google.

In other news, major smart meter manufacturers EDMI, EM-Lite, Itron, OnStream and Secure Meters have agreed to integrate long-range radio communications platform Sensus FlexNet into their product portfolios, Sensus has announced.

Finally, 1E has released version 4.0 of efficient IT platform Nomad Enterprise, which the company says further minimizes the amount of data sent across the WAN, therefore reducing the network bandwidth required.
