Chevys to Carry Ecologic Label

Chevrolet vehicles sold in the United States are to carry the Ecologic environmental label.

The labels will carry information on environmental aspects related to vehicle manufacturing and assembly, fuel-saving features such as aerodynamics or low-rolling resistance tires and the recycling rates of a vehicle.

Claims are audited by third-party sustainability agency Two Tomorrows.

Chevrolet says it is the first automotive brand to include a label of this kind on its vehicles. The first vehicle to carry the label will be the the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic (pictured), it will appear on 2013 Chevrolet models later this year.

In other auto news, Ford has announced it is to offer its fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines in 11 vehicles in 2012, up from seven in 2011, tripling the production capacity of EcoBoost-equipped Ford vehicles.

The EcoBoost delivers up to 20 percent better fuel economy than conventional engines, in a smaller overall size, Ford says.

In October it emerged that the automaker was dropping the Escape hybrid, the best-selling hybrid SUV, in favor of two EcoBoost engine options. At that time, Ford said that one of these, the 1.6 liter EcoBoost, offers better fuel economy than the hybrid model.
