Schneider Electric: EnergySTEP Data Center Assessment Can Improve Power Efficiency 20%
Schneider Electric has introduced EnergySTEP Data Center Assessment, which it says can improve a data center’s power usage effectiveness by 20 percent with a payback period of less than 12 months, into its line of energy management services.
With EnergySTEP, a Schneider Electric EMS specialist collects and analyzes data on the power, cooling, physical infrastructure and operational efficiencies of a data center. The specialist then generates both short-term savings and long-term energy management plans, and provides vendor-neutral recommendations for improving energy efficiency. The resulting report also includes graphics and performance benchmarks, estimated cost savings and an ROI analysis.
Additionally, the report can present findings and recommendations in accordance with the Green Grid Data Center Maturity Model Equalizer. This model benchmarks performance in 46 aspects of the data center and enables mapping of the steps required to achieve greater energy efficiency and sustainability.
Real-time monitoring of all energy sources helps data center managers continue saving money and improving efficiency, the company says. According to Schneider, energy is typically a business’s fastest growing expense, consuming up to 30 percent of an operating budget.
Earlier this spring, Schneider Electric introduced measurement and verification panelboards, enclosed panelboards capable of measuring lighting and plug load energy use at the individual circuit level, with the aim of improving energy management and finding opportunities for cost saving.
According to a Pike Research report published in May, Schneider Electric is a global leader in the submeter technology and services market. Pike says the worldwide market for submetering technology and services totals $771 million and will grow to $1.58 billion in 2020, at a compound annual growth rate of 9.4 percent.
