Water and energy technologies provider Ecolab has joined the United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary corporate sustainability initiative. The company said that it also endorsed the UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate, detailing sustainable water policies and practices.

Symrise AG, a global supplier of fragrances, flavorings, cosmetic active ingredients, and raw materials, also announced that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact, joining more than 8,000 other companies.

Electronics reuse and recycler Sims Recycling Solutions said that it will pursue e-Stewards certification at its 14 North American electronics processing facilities. The company’s Canada-based facilities currently have ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and R2 certifications and the Canadian EPSC RVQP certification. In addition, Sims Recycling Solutions is also a member of the Coalition for American Electronics Recycling steering committee, an industry group supporting the passage of the Responsible Electronics Recycling Act.

The EPA SmartWay certification program has chosen Yokohama Tire Corp’s RY617 steer and all-position tire as its baseline tire casing for retreaded products. With the designation, all retread verification will be measured against a target number for rolling resistance on the Yokohama casing, FleetOwner said.

Workplace furnishings manufacturer Allsteel has received ISO 50001 energy management system certification. The Muscatine, Iowa, company is the first furniture manufacturer in the world and the third company in the US to receive the rating. Allsteel also holds Superior Energy Performance Gold certification, achieving more than 10 percent in energy reductions since its 2008 energy baseline, writes Today’s Facility Manager.

Smithfield Foods said has recertified to ISO 14001 with ‘zero’ non-conformances after a third-party audit of its environmental management system at nine randomly selected Murphy-Brown hog production facilities.

Crystalline PV modules manufacturer GreenBrilliance announced that its manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat in India has received the ISO 14001-2004 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, Renewable Energy World said.

Brandywine Realty Trust announced that it has earned six LEED certifications, including one platinum and two gold certifications. It earned platinum for the IFC headquarters at 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C., and gold for Lake Merritt Tower, Oakland Calif., and the GSA Philadelphia campus at 2970 Market Street, Philadelphia. Brandywine earned LEED Silver for 3020 Market Street, Philadelphia and Peter Jefferson Place VII in Charlottesville, Va. It also earned a LEED certification for The Lift, its automated parking garage at 101 South Juniper Street, Philadelphia. The newly certified projects bring Brandywine’s total square footage of LEED-certified buildings to 2.3 million square feet, the company said.

The 283,000-square-foot Cisco Tower office building in Santa Clara, Calif., owned and managed by Shorenstein Properties, has received LEED Platinum for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certification. This brings to 18 the number of properties owned and managed by Shorenstein that have successfully achieved LEED certification at the silver level or higher in the last three years, the property management company said.

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission ultraviolet water disinfection facility, the Tesla Treatment Facility, has earned LEED Silver for New Construction certification. The facility earned 37 points for features including water efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, xeriscape landscaping, thermal protection and shading, and a selection of eco-friendly building materials, Environmental Protection Online said.
