Standards & Compliance Briefing: ISO 14062 Life Cycle Assessment, PAS 2050, ISO 50001, LEED
The new Mercedes-Benz’ E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid diesel passenger car has earned the TÃœV SÃ¼d Life Cycle Assessment Environmental Certificate based on ISO 14062 standards. Over its entire life cycle, from production through recovery, the vehicle is estimated to release 23 percent less CO2 emissions than a comparable Mercedes E 300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, the company said.
Carbon Trust Certification Limited has become the world’s first organization to achieve accreditation to certify against the new version of the standard for product carbon footprintingÂ â€“ the Publicly Available Standard 2050, or PAS 2050. Carbon Trust Certification is the certification arm of Carbon Trust Group, and earned its independent accreditation for greenhouse gas verification services from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, the organization said.
Polyester fiber manufacturer Trevira has earned it certification to DIN EN ISO 50001. The manufacturer introduced an energy management system in July. The manufacture of man-made fibers is an energy-intensive process, and the companyÂ aims to cut the input of energy by 10 percent of current values by 2020, writes Fibre2fashion.com.
Landis+Gyrâ€™s facility at Northfields Industrial Estate in the UK has earned ISO 50001 certification for energy management. The energy management products provider earned the certification after months of audits and several years of continuous energy efficiency improvements, SmartMeters.com writes.
Japan’s Yokohama Rubber has earned company-wide integrated certification under ISO 14001 for environmental management systems. The integrated certification covers Yokohama’s nine locations, including its headquarters and eight production facilities in Japan, Tire Review said.
Architectural, planning and interior design firm Architectural Resources Cambridge said that the $54 million Global Village designed for the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y., has received LEED Gold certification. The 190,000-square-foot mixed-use complex, including housing and retail, received 10 of its 42 points for use of bicycle storage, changing room space, and preferred parking spaces for low-emitting vehicles. It earned six points by diverting 75 percent of on-site construction waste, Boston/SF News said.
Chidley North residence hall at North Carolina Central University has earned LEED Gold certification. Architecture firm Lord, Aeck & Sargent designed the $24 million, 517-bed facility, which opened in August of last year, and it is NCCUâ€™s first to receive the USBGC gold standard, the university said.
The headquarters of UHC medical centers in Chicago has earned LEED Silver certification. The office was designed by Cannon Design. Features of the new office space include floor-to-ceiling windows, recycling kiosks, and energy-efficient equipment, appliances and lighting, the medical group said.
