The Cabot Creamery Cooperative based in Cabot, Vt., is the first dairy cooperative to achieve B Corporation Certification, giving the company third-party validation of its social and environmental business practices. The certification comes with the updated release of its Reward Volunteers app, which tracks a user’s time spent on volunteer activities. Cabot is owned by 1,200 dairy farmers throughout New England and upstate New York, Cabot said.
Energy and environmental technology group Opcon has received official approval from Lloyd’s Register for the first reference installation of the marine application of Opcon Powerbox, which generates electricity from waste heat. The installation is expected to achieve fuel savings of 4 to 6 percent, and 5 to 10 percent in future installations. The reference installation is a collaborative venture between Opcon and Wallenius Marine, supported by the Swedish Energy Agency, Opcon said.
London Stansted Airport has retained its three standards for environmental and safety management – the Carbon Trust Standard, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 – following an independent assessment. Through 2010 and 2011 the airport reduced its organizational emissions by 5 percent over 2009, for a savings in excess of £31,000 ($48,900) in Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme allowances, the company said.
New England Biolabs, a producer and supplier of reagents for the life science industry, has received ISO 14001 recertification for ongoing progress with its environmental management systems. NEB earned its original certification in 2009, under National Quality Assurance USA guidelines, the company said.

Greek shipping company Arcadia Shipmanagement Co has earned its ISO 50001 certification, in an audit conducted by DNV Greece. It is the first shipping operator certified by DNV Greece to the new energy management standard. DNV also evaluated the SEEMPs for all its vessels and issued corresponding statements of conformity. The shipping company has previously achieved certifications including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and the Green Award, DNV said.
The Mutual of America 750,000-square-foot headquarters in New York City has earned LEED Gold EB-OM certification, the financial services company said. Key enhancements at the 35-floor building include an LED lighting retrofit of the lobby, a complete retrofit of roof lighting to energy-efficient fixtures and bulbs, and a 31 percent reduction in water usage over baseline standards.
The Foster School of Business at the University of Washington has earned LEED certification for PACCAR Hall, the first phase of a multi-phase project. The University of Washington currently has 20 LEED certified buildings – including two platinum – and has another 15 pending certifications, Earth Techling said.
