Contract Wins: Viridian Energy, Waste Management, Emcor, 3Tier, IHS
Viridian Energy has purchased 455 metric tons of carbon offsets to counteract the 2.2 million miles that players will travel, by land and air, to reach the US Open in Flushing, NY. The New Bedford Landfill Gas Utilization Project in Dartmouth, Mass., generated the carbon offsets.
Waste Management and Renmatix have entered into a joint development agreement to explore the feasibility of using Renmatix’s Plantrose process (pictured) to convert post-consumer waste into sugars for manufacturing biobased materials. Under the agreement, Renmatix will explore multiple waste streams collected and processed by Waste Management and its service subsidiaries, including source-separated recyclables, food scraps, construction and demolition debris, and pulp and paper waste.
Emcor Group’s Dynalectric subsidiary has won a contract to install alternative maritime power (AMP) and crane cable for the Port of Los Angeles at Terminal Island, Calif. Instead of running on diesel power while at berth, AMP-equipped ships plug in to a shore-side electrical power source, which reduces emissions while docked. The Port of Los Angeles says it is the first port in the world to use AMP technology for in-service container ships.
The US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory has selected renewable energy risk analysis company 3Tier to update the US wind integration dataset. The dataset will include five years (2007-2011) of five-minute meteorological data at a horizontal resolution of 2 km and detailed energy production profiles for 100,000 potential onshore wind project locations and 10,000 potential offshore project locations.
Information and analytics firm IHS and business technology software provider MicroStrategy have entered into an agreement to develop customized dashboards that allow businesses to explore their environmental, health, safety and sustainability information, perform in-depth analyses, and share data visualizations on the web or via mobile devices. IHS will market the new dashboards to the oil and gas, power utility, metals, mining, chemical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, defense and manufacturing industries, as well as government and military.
The Guam Power Authority has selected energy management company Landis+Gyr to implement its smart grid technology project. The utility will deploy more than 52,000 Landis+Gyr meters and use its Gridstream network components over the next two years.
