Standards & Compliance Briefing: Declare Product Label, ISO 50001, ACEEE Scorecard, Rewarding Recycling
The International Living Future Institute has launched theÂ Declare label for building products. Declare aligns with the Living Building Challenge by providing product transparency in support of the programâ€™s Red List and Appropriate Sourcing Imperatives, streamlining material documentation and project certification. Accepted products from green building manufacturers can be viewed online and may display the Declare label on their products, the institute said.
Sunrise Senior Living said that more than 30 of its communities in the US have earned EPA Energy StarÂ certification for energy efficiency performance ranked in the top 25 percent of similar buildings nationwide.Â The company said that it focused on efficiency in the areas of lighting and HVAC, and laundry and kitchen operations.
Piraeus-based tanker owner Neda Maritime Agency Co. has certified their systems and processes with Lloydâ€™s Register against the ISO 50001 standard for efficient energy use and conservation throughout their fleet. Neda had previously achieved certification against a number internationally recognized HSQE standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, for their quality control and environmental management systems, gCaptain said.
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy has released State Energy Efficiency Scorecard, a review of states efforts to implement energy efficiency initiatives. The ACEEE scorecard shows that the top 10 energy efficiency states are Massachusetts, California, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Washington, Maryland, and Minnesota. The 10 states most in need of improvement are Mississippi, North Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming, South Dakota, Alaska, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Nebraska, ACEEE said.
Toyota Motor Co. has launched the Rewarding Recycling program to promote end-of-life vehicle recycling. The program allows car owners in the UK to visit a website where they can immediately get a value for the car, and receive an automatic bank payment after taking the vehicle to a Toyota drop-off center, Fleet News said.
Baltimore Gas and Electric Company has earned ISO 14001 company-wide certification for its environmental management systems. Recently, BGE s electric transmission, electric distribution, shared services and fleet services lines of business received ISO 14001 certification. This, coupled with the ISO 14001 certification earned by BGE gas distribution operations in 2011, completed the company-wide certification, the company said.
Pakistan Steel Mills has achieved ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. Royal Cert International Registrar, Pakistan, conducted the three-day surveillance of PS plants and offices. The company also holds OHSAS 18001 and ISO-9001 certificates from SGS International, Business Recorder said.
Cummins Inc. has received EPA certification for its ISX15 engine, meeting both the EPA 2013 regulations and the new greenhouse gas and fuel-efficiency rules that will take effect in 2014. Cumminsâ€™ 2014 greenhouse gas certification is the first certificate issued by the EPA for engines meeting 2014 GHG and fuel efficiency rules, Bulk Transporter said.
