LEO-SCS-002 complements international standards for life-cycle assessment, and is aligned with the most recent discoveries in the field of climate science. For example, the draft standard’s climate metrics will make it possible for the first time for carbon registries to account for the effects of short-lived climate pollutants such as black carbon and tropospheric ozone. The standard was part of discussion at the 2013 Climate Leadership Conference sponsored by the American Climate Change Officers, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, the Climate Registry, and the EPA, SCS said.
