Standards & Compliance Briefing: Geothermal Pipes, R2, ISO 14001, LEED
Centennial Plastics is the first company to earn certification to NSF/ANSI Standard 358-1: Polyethylene Pipe and Fittings for Water-Based Ground-Source “Geothermal” Heat Pump Systems. NSF International awarded Centennial the certification verifying that the company’s CenFuse geothermal pipes meet minimum performance and safety requirements.
Bass Computers has achieved the R2 electronics recycling standard, as well as ISO 14001 environmental management certification. Bass is a wholesale distributor of technology and CCTV equipment, which also offers IT asset disposal, electronics recycling, and data destruction.
UL has launched global validation services for water systems, including drinking water treatment units. UL Water Systems Validation Services will evaluate products and issue certificates of validation, via both of the company’s testing facilities in South Bend, Ind., and Bangalore, India.
The Oregon Department of Transportation‘s headquarters in Salem, Ore., has earned LEED Platinum certification. The 1951 building underwent a $56 million renovation, and environmental features now include rooftop solar panels, rainwater collection for toilet flushing, and an over 40 percent reduction in water use.
Oil company Saudi Aramco has earned LEED Platinum certification for its Al-Midra tower in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The building has a solar power system and garnered 33 out of 35 points in the energy and atmosphere category, Arab News reports.
Vegetarian food firm The Tofurky Company has earned LEED Platinum for its manufacturing plant in Hood River, Ore., due on-line early in 2014. This is only the second LEED Platinum food processing plant in the US, the company says. Features include a 400-panel solar array, electric car charging and green roof, the Paramus Post reports.
