San Francisco’s Embarcadero Center has earned LEED Gold certification for existing buildings operations and maintenance, for its entire complex of four buildings, totaling 3 million sq ft of office space and 300,000 sq ft of retail. Owner Boston Properties has spent almost $13 million since 2001 on energy and water efficiency improvements, saving over $2 million and 14.5 kWh a year, the San Francisco Business Times reports.

The California Senate unanimously approved AB 227, which would give business owners receiving a notice of Proposition 65 violation a two-week grace period, during which they could avoid a lawsuit by posting the required warning signs and paying a $500 fine. The bill now goes back to the state Assembly, the Associated Press reports.

Several volatile solvents and monomers on an inventory of substances used in electrical equipment, proposed for restriction under RoHS2, should be struck from the list because they are only used to polymerize plastics, digital industry associations DigitalEurope and TechAmerica Europe said. The groups said several entries should also be removed because they are already regulated under RoHS or REACH, ChemicalWatch reported.

SCS Global Services has certified that Tejidos Royo‘s 7708 CRUDO denim cotton contains at least 18 percent pre-consumer recycled denim cotton. The company recycled more than 9 metric tons of denim in 2012, equivalent to about 20,000 pairs of jeans.

LiqTech International silicon carbide membranes have been certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61, approving the membranes for use in drinking water systems. LiqTech’s production facility has also been successfully audited by NSF, Filtration & Separation reports.

Alderley Systems, a subsidiary of engineering firm Alderley plc, has been certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance. Alderley’s environmental management system applies to the design and manufacture of oil and gas metering and process equipment systems; and to the design, manufacture and servicing of electrical, electronic control, metering and safety systems for industry, the company says.

URS Corporation, a provider of federal government engineering and technical services, has achieved ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 9001 quality management certification for its URS Linton integration facility in Indiana, Greene County Daily World reports.
