Standards & Compliance Briefing: UL Paper Products, ICC Online Voting, LEED
UL Environment has launched its revised UL 175 Standard for Sanitary Paper Products. The standard consolidates, revises and updates the five EcoLogo certification criteria documents: CCD-082 Toilet Tissue, CCD-083 Facial Tissue, CCD-084 Table Napkins, CCD-085 Kitchen Towels and CCD-086 Hand Towels. Updates include new packaging criteria, a revised recycled content component, clearer rules on fiber sourcing, improved limits on energy consumption, and requirements for biodegradable organic compound additives, including for optical brighteners.
The International Code Council has launched cdpACCESS, a cloud-based tool that allows code development process participants to create and submit code change proposals, invite colleagues to collaborate, and vote on code changes. ICC’s codes are used in the building design, construction and compliances processes.
The International Code Council has extended its Group C online code change submittal deadline from January 6 to January 10. The 2014 Group C Committee Action Hearings, April 27–May 4 in Memphis, Tenn., will give stakeholders a chance to help develop the 2015 International Green Construction Code.
Hobas Pipe USA has announced its inclusion on the Bureau de Normalization de Québec’s List of Certified Products, Processes and Services, verifying the safety of its products and materials that make contact with drinking water, Trenchless Technology reports. Hobas makes centrifugally cast, fiberglass reinforced, polymer mortar pipe used for storm and sanitary sewers, potable water, force mains, outfalls, industrial effluents and other corrosive environments.
Reliable Controls has achieved LEED Platinum for its headquarters annex in Victoria, British Columbia. The facility features rain gardens, swales, green roofs and other features that reduce stormwater runoff by 52 percent and potable water use for sewage conveyance by 82 percent. The company, which makes Internet-connected green building controls, also integrated the facility’s HVAC, lighting and security systems and instituted individual control of temperature, lights, sunshades and occupancy via LAN and wireless.
North Gate Vineyard in Purcellville, Virginia has been awarded LEED Gold Certification for its winery, production facility and tasting room, totaling 5,656 square feet on 26 acres, Leesburg Today reports. Features include a 22 kW solar array, reflective roof, and reclaimed wood and bottles used to build the tables and bar.
