Standards & Certification Briefing: Superior Energy Performance, IEC 62474, LEED for Hillshire

Volvo Group‘s New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Va., has received Superior Energy Performance certification. The plant improved its energy performance by 25.8 percent over three years while maintaining its daily truck production levels.

The Consumer Electronics Association, DigitalEurope, and the Japanese Green Procurement Survey Standardization Initiative announced that IEC 62474 is now the electrotechnical industry’s recommended material declaration standard. This standard includes an associated database and declarable substance list. Users should now consider the Joint Industry Guide officially obsolete, PCB 007 reports.

Temporary power company Aggreko has had all its US and Canadian service centers recertified to the ISO 14001 environmental management and OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety standards.

The Hillshire Brands Company‘s Chicago headquarters building has achieved LEED Gold certification for commercial interiors. The nearly 234,000 sq ft building achieved points for water efficiency, low-emission materials, optimized lighting power and controls, and access to public transportation, among other features. The $4 billion-sales company sells under the Jimmy Bean, Hillshire Farm, Sara Lee and other brands.

Hypertherm, a U.S. based manufacturer of plasma, laser, and waterjet cutting systems, announced that its new 160,000 sq ft factory in Lebanon, N.H., has achieved LEED Gold designation. The facility includes research and development space, training classrooms, and engineering labs.

Three office buildings owned and managed by Parmenter Realty Partners recently earned LEED Gold for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance. Brookhollow Central II and III in Houston and Buckhead Tower at Lenox Square in Atlanta underwent a comprehensive re-commissioning program for building operations, HVAC equipment and lighting. Janitorial services were also made more environmentally friendly, Parmenter says. 

Portman Travel gained three certificates at the same time for the provision of business travel management services: the ISO 9001 quality management, ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 27001 information security management standards, Meetpie reports.
