Standards & Compliance Briefing: ISO 14064, LEED, GM’s ISO 50001
General Motors’ San Luis Potosi Complex in Mexico has received ISO 50001 energy management certification, GM Authority reports. The plant had already achieved the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, and GM has other ISO 50001-certified facilities in Germany, Thailand, Austria, Poland, Spain and Argentina.
The Regal Airport Hotel in Hong Kong has been accredited to the ISO 50001 energy management system standard, and says it is the first airport hotel in the world to obtain that accreditation. The hotel has also achieved ISO 14064 GHG emissions certification, AsiaTravelTips reports.
The Oregon Convention Center has qualified for LEED Platinum, raising its rating from LEED Silver. Owner and operator Metro invested about $75,000 in retrofits last year, including plumbing, lighting and mechanical upgrades, to improve the 1 million-plus sq ft facility, Portland Business Journal reports.
Carrier’s newest manufacturing facility has achieved LEED Gold certification, making the 390,000 sq ft Monterrey, Mexico factory the sixth LEED-certified building for Carrier and the 17th for parent United Technologies. Carrier says it reduced its on-site potable water consumption by 96 percent by recycling condensate for use in toilets, employing low-flow fixtures, and using 100 percent recycled water for landscaping.
ASTM has published ASTM D1125-14, Standard Test Methods for Electrical Conductivity and Resistivity of Water. These test methods are applicable for such purposes as impurity detection and, in some cases, the quantitative measurement of ionic constituents dissolved in waters. These include dissolved electrolytes in natural and treated waters, such as boiler water, boiler feedwater, cooling water, and saline and brackish water, ASTM says.
ASTM has released ASTM D4195-08(2014), Standard Guide for Water Analysis for Reverse Osmosis and Nanofiltration Application. Analyses and measurements performed in this guide will provide vital data for salt rejection and permeate flow projections of RO or NF systems for specific feedwaters, ASTM says.
ASTM has released ASTM D4472-08(2014), Standard Guide for Recordkeeping for Reverse Osmosis and Nanofiltration Systems.
ASTM has published ASTM D4993-08(2014), Standard Practice for Calculation and Adjustment of Silica (SiO2) Scaling for Reverse Osmosis.
An ASTM sub-committee has launched a review of standard D511-90, Standard Test Methods for Calcium and Magnesium In Water.
ASTM has published ASTM D4823-95(2014), Standard Guide for Core Sampling Submerged, Unconsolidated Sediments.
