Occidental Petroleum, a major oil and natural gas company, has cut its ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council, a coalition of corporations and state legislators that opposes environmental regulations and clean energy policies.

Occidental on Friday sent a letter indicating its intention to end its relationship with ALEC, the National Journal reports.

“There are no plans to continue Occidental’s membership in, or make further payments to, ALEC,” the company said in a letter to Walden Asset Management.

The move follows a recent exodus of tech companies, including Facebook, which dumped ALEC last week, along with Google, which cut its support to ALEC saying the group was “literally lying” about climate change. Microsoft cut ties and all financial support to ALEC last month for the same reasons.

Occidental didn’t give a reason for its departure but said being tied to the group meant it would be “presumed to share the positions” of ALEC on climate change, the Hill reports.
