Hotel Cuts Nat Gas Use 98% with Low-Water Laundry System

Xeros beadsA Massachusetts hotel has earned a $9,369 incentive from National Grid as part of a program to promote various energy-saving cleaning technologies after installing Xeros’ ultra-low water laundry system.

The Choice Hotel property is the first hotel to receive this cleaning technology incentive from National Grid after installing the Xeros Commercial Laundry System, which demonstrated a 98 percent reduction in natural gas usage and a 70 percent reduction in water usage.

Xeros’ polymer bead technology washing machines reduce natural gas and water usage.  By replacing water with polymer beads as the active ingredient for removing stains from fabrics, the polymer bead machines typically use up to 80 percent less water than a traditional commercial washing machine as well as lower temperatures, thus reducing the amount of natural gas that is consumed to heat water for the laundry process, the company says.

Rise Engineering conducted an extensive technical assistance study at the hotel including the metering of energy and water usage for the Xeros Commercial Laundry System and an industry standard machine.

Earlier this year a California athletic club reduced water usage for laundry washed with a machine using Xeros laundry system by nearly 50 percent.

  1. Great news! We need more hotels who cares about the environment. And environmental policies should not be just something written on their website or hotel’s book. We need more examples like this one! 🙂
