IMSRTerrestrial Energy has entered into an initial collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to advance the commercialization of the company’s new integral molten salt reactor (IMSR) Gen IV design.

Terrestrial Energy says this new collaboration, along with last month’s research and development deal with Canadian Nuclear Labs, moves it to the front of the line in the international race to be first to market with an economically viable advanced SMR design.

The company says its IMSR design has the advantages of being a cheaper <$.04 kWh, safer, more stable, distributable, proliferation resistant and a near-zero waste energy system, providing industrial users with process heat and power at the point of demand.
