Suez Environnement has won a €84 million ($95 million) contract to operate and maintain two wastewater treatment plants at Gabal El Asfar in Cairo, Egypt.
This contract was won in consortium with three Egyptian companies: DHCU, ARCOM and ICAT.
Cabal El Asfar is the biggest wastewater treatment facility on the east bank of the Nile. It has a processing capacity of more than 1,400,000 cubic meters a day, including a cogeneration plant fueled by anaerobic sludge digestion that produces up to 65 percent of the powered needed to run the facility.
Earlier this month Suez Environnement, via its subsidiary Degrémont, acquired Poseidon, a Canadian company specializing in separation systems for industrial water treatment, as well as B&V Group, a British company specializing in water treatment chemicals, equipment and services.
