The energy and sustainability management services provider achieved this goal by consolidating offices, implementing office efficiency improvements and efficiently managing business travel.

Among the highlights included in its 2014 report, Ecova reported that it received Spokane County’s 2013 Pinnacle Award for its efforts to reduce the carbon footprint at its corporate headquarters through alternative commuting programs, its involvement on local and regional boards and the rollout of company-wide commute trip reduction efforts.

The company also hosted 47 employee educational events around the country on environmental issues such as energy and water reduction strategies, waste management and alternative transportation.

In 2014, Ecova reported that it reduced business-related greenhouse gas emissions by 81 tons compared to the 2012 baseline. By the end of 2015, it aims to increase that number to 166 tons — a 3 percent reduction compared to 2012.

To help meet that goal, Ecova will be investigating travel patterns related to its business travel and use its energy monitoring services internally to optimize energy efficiency, among other initiatives. In 2014, Ecova installed electrical submetering equipment at its seven largest facilities to gain insight into its energy consumption and track the impact of its energy-efficiency initiatives.

The company also responded to CDP’s 2014 climate change questionnaire. Ecova is a CDP silver software partner and was included in CDP’s S&P 500 Climate Change Report 2014.
